The shotgun pattern is an indication of Foul Brood disease

The infected hives have to be burned in a hole so they can be buried when done, to further insure no spores can infect other bees or hives

The wax in the hives means good fuel for the fire

The state bee inspector came to determine if the hives were infected with Foul Brood disease....a very contagious, spore born illness.  They were, and all  have to be burned and buried.

This little baby wren was hard to photograph....he was too far away, but even so, you could see he wasn't so sure he wanted to be out of his nest.
